Katrin Kewitz

Born:               January 29th, 1982

Katrin is competing an original beam mount: handspring onto the board to punch front onto the beam.

In 1997 Kathrin was a member of this Juniorteam who have beaten a Romanian Juniorteam. Later in this year she competed in the Juniormeet in Charleroi also (12^th).

In her first year as senior gymnast she made the Team for St.Petersburg and placed with her team 10^th (competing vault and floor).

At German Nationals '98 she placed 2^th.

End of the year 1998 she competed very well in the thre meets Gander Memorial (6th All Around), Swiss Cup (4th vault and beam) and DTB-Cup (8th vault, 3rd beam, 6th floor).

In 1999 she was a member of the Worldsteam and competed at DTB-Cup again but gave her retirement after this competition.

When did you started with gymnastics?
When I was 5 year old, in 1987.

Favourite gymnast when you started gymnastics?
Svetlana Boguinskaja.

Gymnasts you admire now (Gymnastics style or because she is a good friend)?
Lilia Podkopajeva, Svetlana Khorkina and Adrienn Varga.

Which skill in gymnastics you like most to do?
Handspring onto the board to punch front on to the beam.

Which skill you hate but you need it (because it’s a basic skill or has a high start value)?
Flip layout step out to layout step out on beam; double tucked on floor.

About which skill you are dreaming, you are thinking: wow, if I coud do that?
I haven't made any thought about this.

Which was the most impressing competition to you?
Participation at Junior Europeans and Senior Europeans.

If you couldn't do gymnastics, which sport would you do?
Athletics, Swimming.

Would you give back compulsory to elite gymnasts if you could decide that?
No, because it's to difficult.

In Ice Skating are A and B scores. Do you think this would works in gymnastics also?
No, because I do not like very much the balletical point of Gymnastics.

Do you have a hobby outside of gymnastics?
No.

Am Swisscups 98 konnten wir kurz mit Katrin sprechen.  Die Zeit reichte ihr damals nicht, um unsere Fragen zu beantworten. Doch bereits eine Woche später trafen wir sie am DTB-Cup in Stuttgart, wo sich sich kurz Zeit nahm. Hier sind ihre Antworten:

Wann hast du mit dem Kunstturnen angefangen?
Als ich fünfjährig war, 1987.

Welche Turnerin hast du damals bewundert?
Svetlana Boguinskaja.

Welche Teile turnst du am liebsten?
Den Überschlagsalto als Angang am Balken.

Von welchem Teil träumst Du, denkst Du: Wow, wenn ich das könnte?
Darüber habe ich mir noch keine Gedanken gemacht.

Welchen Teil hasst Du, brauchst ihn aber, weil er ein Grundelement ist oder einen hohen Ausgangswert besitzt?
Flic-Flac-Spreizsalto, Spreizsalto am Balken; Doppelsalto gebückt am Boden

Welche Situation im Training oder welcher Wettkampf war für dich wegweisend und hat dich nachhaltend am meisten beeindruckt?
Die Teilnahme an der Junioren-Europameisterschaft und Senioren-Europameisterschaft.

Würdest du, wenn du könntest, auf internationaler Ebene die Pflicht wieder einführen? Warum?
Nein, weil sie zu schwer ist.

Im Eiskunstlauf gibt es neben dem technischen Wert eine künstlerische Note. Glaubst du, das wäre im Kunstturnen auch einen Versuch wert?
Nein, weil ich keine Gymnastik mag.

Welches ist deine Lieblingskunstturnerin auf internationaler Ebene heute?

Wenn du nicht turnen würdest, welche Sportart würde dich sonst noch faszinieren?
Leichtathletik, Schwimmen.
